A Partnership providing Expertise and Advice - ABS Pumps
When ABS Pumps in Wexford originally bought two HitachiHG 630 machining centres as a turnkey package fromLister Machine Tools they did so with the necessary facilitiesto allow for conversion to automatic systems, in other wordswith future expandability in mind from day one.
The Company, part of the Swedish owned Cardo Group,
manufactures small to medium sized submersible pumps for the water and sewage treatments industries shipping most of their products around the World. As John Clancy, the Production Manager at ABS pointed out: "The demand for our pumps is increasing and it is very important that our production equipment is able to meet our targets. In 1999 the decision was made to automate the two machining centres, which manufacture our volute products, by incorporating them into a Hitachi Seiki robot pallet loader holonical cell.
The Robot Fed Stocker System has created a situation where the utilisation of the two HG630 Horizontal Machining Centres has increased significantly, the need for the traditional set up has been eliminated, whilst at the same time manning and quality control inspections have been minimised.
Installing this holonical cell was a major step for us and price was not the only factor we took into consideration; back up is important. Lister Machine Tools Applications Engineers were able to undertake feasibility and simulation studies to validate the results together with practical production trials. These were important and impressive factors in ABS Pumps’ decision making process.
Integration of the two HG 630 Machining Centres to the Robot Stocker System has gone very smoothly. Interference to normal production was minimal through project planning using the product and technical expertise of both ABS Pumps and Lister Machine Tools.
